THE ART OF NOT TURNING AWAY
A slow wellness practice
for expanding your capacity to feel.
This guided somatic practice is an invitation to slow down and meet difficult emotions, memories, and experiences, without forcing, fixing, or overwhelming yourself.
Rather than bypassing pain or diving headfirst into it, this session teaches you how to nurture capacity: how to touch the edges of grief, fear, uncertainty, or emotional overwhelm, and regulate yourself again and again.
Rooted in nervous system science, mindfulness, and somatic psychology, this practice uses our body-up slow wellness approach to help you learn that difficult feelings have edges, cycles, and endings.
This is not about feeling better fast.
It’s about learning how to stay with yourself.

Most of us have been taught — implicitly, persistently — that difficult emotions are problems to be solved. That discomfort is a signal to distract, suppress, or push through.
This practice teaches something different.
The Art of Not Turning Away is a guided somatic meditation that meets you exactly where you are — at the edges of grief, fear, uncertainty, or the quiet emotional weight that doesn't always have a name. Not to fix it. Not to force through it. But to gently expand your capacity to be with it.
This is not about feeling better fast. It's about learning how to stay with yourself.
What You’ll Practice
Using the Kunye body-up approach — rooted in nervous system science, mindfulness, and somatic psychology — this session teaches you:
How to work with difficult emotions without becoming flooded
How to establish a reliable internal anchor for regulation
How to move between sensation and safety in a way that builds trust in your body
How to meet protective patterns ( like numbing, distraction, tension) with compassion rather than force
How to let your nervous system complete its stress cycles through gentle awareness and release
Difficult feelings have edges, cycles, and endings. This practice helps you find them.
Working With Your Nervous System,
not against it
Your nervous system is always scanning. Always asking: am I safe? Rather than pushing yourself to calm down, this practice teaches you to recognize your current state — and gently support your body's natural return to regulation. No forcing. No bypassing.
Capacity Over Catharsis
Healing is not a dramatic breakthrough. It’s a relational process built gradually, between you and your body, through consistency, compassion, and attunement. Nothing here is rushed. Nothing is bypassed. This is slow wellness applied to the most tender territory there is.
Awareness Over Analysis
This session is designed with trauma-aware principles at its core. You will never be asked to relive, analyse, or perform your way through pain. Instead — choice, pacing, and grounding. Learning the difference between feeling and flooding. That distinction alone changes everything.
THIS PRACTICE IS FOR YOU IF:
You feel emotionally overloaded but don't want to bypass what's true
You've tried meditation before and found it too activating or abstract
You want a grounded, body-based approach to emotional resilience
You're navigating grief, change, burnout, or the quiet forms of suffering that don't always have a name
This practice is not a replacement for in-person support during acute crisis. But it can be a powerful companion for learning how to meet yourself with more steadiness — over time, on your own terms.
HEART-KEEPING
A NOTE FROM MEL
I made this session because I needed it, these tools really helped me help myself.
There was a time when I was very good at turning away. Staying busy. Staying composed. Staying in my head. Anywhere but inside the feeling. I thought that was strength. I know now it was sensitivity.
Learning to turn toward and to slow down, to sense what's present, and meet it without immediately trying to make it go away — changed everything. Not because the difficult feelings disappeared. But because I stopped being afraid of them.
What I want to offer you in this session is not a technique. It's a relationship. With your own emotional landscape. On your own terms.
This is the body-up approach applied to the most human thing there is — feeling.
